You can track your accomplishments, send videos and text messages to your friends. You can form parties to play together. You can also buy games, TV shows, music, and demos through PSN. We’ll be providing the latest updates and other significant developments related to PlayStation Network operations.
They are refreshing the system UI. Adding tools for organization, updating the Quick menu and so on…
First of all, the UI update:
They have made a lot of improvements and adjustments to PS4’s user interface. It’s not a major update, rather pure refreshment. You may notice right away the new system background; it looks quite nice. There are also some few minor changes in popup notifications and redesigned system icons. As a whole, it makes the UI simpler and prettier.
Holding the PS button on your DualShock 4 brings up the quick menu. The big change they’ve made is bringing the quick menu now doesn’t cover up the whole screen. You don’t need to leave your gameplay entirely like before.
They’ve added several items to the Quick Menu; you can now get quick info without having to back to the home screen. Adding and removing items on the Quick Menu is now a possibility. You can see the online status of your friends, shortcuts to quickly access your favorite groups, communities, and parties.
Once you press the “Share” button on your DualShock 4, the new share menu will appear. Same as the quick menu, share menu covers only a part of your screen and does not interrupt your gameplay. It will automatically save the last social network you’ve shared screenshots and video clips on thus minimizing your effort.
Sharing videos longer than 10 seconds on Twitter (now up to 140 seconds) is also a new cool feature.
Organization of folders and library:
People always complained about organizing content on PS4; Sony finally came up with the solution. With this update, Sony offers you to create folders in the launcher and the library. This feature will help you collect all your favorite content in one place.
They are also making significant changes to the Library. They’ve added a new tab called “Purchased” which will show all the content you own. It’ll show games, applications, demos, and betas, everything you’ve participated in will be available. This feature should simplify your Library and make it more transparent. They added some new sorting tools; you can now sort your content by install status or purchase date. They’ve added a search bar to help you narrow down your search.
It’s now possible to see all your trophies offline. The new “offline mode” option is available if your console is unable to connect to a network. Offline mode will let you view your Trophies collection without an internet connection. It’s a pretty neat option considering people don’t always have an active connection. You can now brag to your friends with your trophies whether you have an internet connection or not.
Hidden trophies are now available with a click of a button. They stay hidden by default, but you can now choose to show the award name and info. There’s something satisfying about shoving your accomplishments in your friend’s face. And it’s now possible without a connection. There have been some visual changes, icons are new, the old four boxes are now a thing of the past. Icons now look like a pyramid with rare trophies on the top.
User profile got a major overhaul as well. It’s now easier to see player info almost immediately. For example, you can now see your progress compared with another player right from their profile. Customizable backgrounds are now a thing! You can put any background you want into your profile. Be sure to put an awesome screenshot from a game you dominated. Anything creative will boost your reputation in the community.
The updates are quite often, be sure to visit these update articles from time to time to stay in touch. Sony is always full of surprises; it won’t be long until they hit us with some new awesome stuff.
